Anxiety and Stress
There are times in life when things seem to get on top of us, and our physical health can suffer as a result. We feel that we want to stop the world and get off, run away or just buckle under the pressure.
Panic and stress tension often occur when our natural 'fight or flight' response to difficult circumstances gets out of control. This response is one of our most basic instincts. As we develop whilst growing up, everything that happens to us, pleasant or otherwise, affects the way our brains become "wired". This, In turn, affects the way we react to current experiences. Every outer stimulus generates a surge of activity in the brain, and physical or emotional sensations follow. Some of these can be extremely unpleasant.
If you have had a traumatic childhood or are experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder following an event of some kind, the chances are you are re-living painful memories unconsciously and you may even be unwittingly attracted to circumstances and people that trigger these painful sensations. Fear of the painful memory overwhelming you can lead to all kinds of avoidance tactics placing you in uncomfortable and challenging states of mind, which you feel powerless to overcome.
